Budget Cuts Lead to Closure of Regional Consumer Protection Office in Wauwatosa
Wauwatosa, WI—The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) Regional Consumer Protection office in Wauwatosa will be closing. The Wauwatosa-based office is one of three locations that will shut down.
According to DATCP, all operations will be consolidated into the main Madison office to meet budgetary restraints. The Bureau was required to reduce its general consumer protection staff by 15 percent, and reduce its general purpose revenue spending by approximately $1 million during the current biennium.
The regional Consumer Protection offices handled consumer issues such as auto repair complaints and landlord-tenant disagreements.
