However, the federal government classifies marijuana as a Schedule I drug meaning it has no medical value and is illegal for doctors to prescribe. This bibliography gathers some background information on the issue of legalizing the medical use of marijuana at the state level. Information against the legalization of marijuana is included to present some of the concerns opponents raise about the implications of making marijuana more accessible, but this bibliography does not intend to address the broader subject of decriminalization of marijuana use.
